In our society, large, round breasts are considered one of the most highly desirable features of a woman’s body. Women with small breasts often struggle with their self-esteem and may even feel inadequate. Breast augmentation is a surgical cosmetic procedure that can boost a woman’s confidence through the use of implants to create larger, fuller breasts.
Patients have two options for implants – saline or silicone. Both implants have advantages, and ultimately the choice of which implant to use is made by the patient and is based on personal preference. Both types of implants are made using silicone-based shells. Saline implants are filled with a sterile saline solution. The implants are empty when placed in the breasts and then filled to the desired size. Silicone implants are pre-filled with silicone gel. If you are considering breast augmentation in Michigan, contact Michigan Plastic Surgery to schedule an initial complimentary consultation. During your consultation, you will be able to look at and to feel each type of breast implant and further discuss the potential pros and cons of each.
On the day of surgery, you will be administered either general anesthesia or intravenous sedation so you will be asleep during the procedure. Following your surgery, downtime will be necessary in order to facilitate a safe recovery process and to reduce the risk of complications. Recovery does vary from patient to patient, but you can expect swelling and soreness in your breasts, and ice packs and pain medications can be used to help manage discomfort. Be sure to follow all post-operative directions carefully. You should be able to return to work and resume most of your normal daily activities in a week or two.
