Buttock Fat Grafting

Fat-grafting surgery is used to remove a patient’s own fat through liposuction to re-implant it where desired. It is typically extracted from areas such as the abdomen, flanks, or thighs and is re-injected into another area (like the buttocks) that could benefit from added volume.

What is Buttock Fat Grafting?

With buttock augmentation through fat grafting, the fat is taken from one area of the body where there is excess fat and injected into the buttocks to improve shape and volume. The procedure is usually used in place of traditional buttock implants. It’s often called a Brazilian butt lift or Brazilian buttock augmentation.

Beyond buttock augmentation, fat grafting is also used to move fat into other areas such as a patient’s breasts or facial features.

How Does Buttock Fat Grafting Work?

To start, Dr. Colony will use liposuction techniques to remove excess fat from the targeted areas. The fat will then be purified and put into syringes. It will then be carefully injected into the buttocks to enhance your curves and give you the plumper appearance you’re looking for.

Before Your Buttock Fat Grafting Procedure

Before your buttock fat grafting procedure, you’ll first want to schedule a free consultation with Dr. Colony. During this appointment, he’ll review your medical history, go over the medications you’re taking, examine the treatment areas, and determine the right treatment plan that will best meet your needs. 

In the days and weeks before your surgery date, you’ll want to avoid blood thinners, smoking, and alcohol consumption. You’ll also want to stick to a healthy lifestyle, stay hydrated, and follow any other pre-op instructions Dr. Colony gives you. Arranging for a friend or family member to drive you to and from your surgery is also important.

During Your Buttock Fat Grafting Procedure

To start your buttock fat grafting procedure, we’ll begin by administering general anesthesia to ensure you’re completely comfortable throughout surgery. From there, small incisions are made in the liposuction areas, and suction is used to remove the excess fat. Once that fat is cleaned and purified, it is carefully injected into the buttocks area, depending on the patient’s anatomy and desired results.

The transferred fat will then re-vascularize and survive in the new location. This autologous fat transfer process can be repeated until the desired correction has been achieved and may be combined with other surgical procedures, like skin excision or tummy tuck for enhanced results.

After Your Buttock Fat Grafting Procedure

There are limitations to how much fat can safely be injected into a part of the body during the fat grafting procedure. These limitations exist because we don’t want to jeopardize the blood supply or risk a patient’s safety. 

Patients should also be aware that during fat transfer buttock augmentation, only about 50-70% of the fat taken from one area of the body and injected into the buttocks will survive. Depending on the patient’s desired results, multiple liposuction and fat grafting treatments may be necessary. 

There are also several steps patients should take to aid in their recovery. A compression garment approved by Dr. Colony should be worn for several weeks after surgery to reduce swelling and bruising and protect the post-operative results. Physical activity should be avoided for a minimum of two weeks post-op. Additionally, to ensure the best results, Dr. Colony will instruct patients on massaging the treated areas and specific at-home care.

Patients should also avoid any restrictive clothing. Anything with a tight band or buckles could make a permanent indentation in the liposuctioned areas.

What to Expect for Your Buttock Fat Grafting Results

With buttock fat grafting, you will likely see results immediately, but swelling and bruising will hide final improvements. The body will also naturally absorb some of the transferred fat, so it can take several months to see your final results. After 3-6 months, you will see your final improvements, and the results are usually permanent with proper maintenance.
