Labiaplasty is most often performed under general anesthesia. Once the area is numbed, excess tissue can be removed, trimmed, and resized. Dissolvable stitches are often used so there is no need for removal. The recovery process does vary from woman to woman, but swelling, pain and bruising of the vaginal area are quite common and can last for a few weeks following surgery. Though most daily activities can be resumed almost immediately, certain strenuous exercises as well as sexual intercourse should be avoided for approximately one month. To help facilitate a safe and speedy recovery, it is critical to follow all post-operative instructions closely.
