How Does Kybella Work?

Kybella is a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring compound in our body that can aid in the destruction of fat cells. The FDA has approved the use of Kybella in patients over the age of 18 years, who wish to get rid of fat under their chin.

How Many Treatments Do I Need?

Dr. Colony customizes the treatment as per your needs, but usually, you will need two to three treatments with 12 to about 20 injections per treatment. The treatment sessions are usually scheduled a month apart.

What to Expect After Kybella

During the clinical trials, most patients could see results within two to three treatments. Following a healthy lifestyle can help preserve your results indefinitely.

The side effects of Kybella include swelling, mild pain, bruising, numbness, and firmness around the injection site.  These side effects resolve on their own within a week or so.  It is important that you consult with an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon for optimal results and to avoid possible nerve irritation.

How does Kybella work?

Kybella is made up of deoxycholic acid, which works to break down the fat underneath the chin and along the jawline. The body then naturally eliminates the fat cells, and you’re left with a contoured and defined jawline.

Are Kybella injections painful?

Kybella injections are tolerable for most patients. Some report mild discomfort or a slight stinging sensation during injection.

How many Kybella injections are needed?

How many injections you need will depend on the results you’re looking for, but most patients receive anywhere from two to four treatments to achieve their desired results. Your provider will determine the number of injections for your custom treatment plan during your consultation.

Who is a good candidate for Kybella?

Good candidates for Kybella are in good health, nonsmokers, and have realistic expectations of treatment. Patients with localized excess fat underneath the chin or a double chin are typically good candidates, but Kybella is not a treatment for excess skin.

How long does Kybella treatment take?

Kybella injections typically take anywhere from 15-30 minutes.
