What is an Arm Lift?
An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is a body contouring procedure that removes stretched, sagging skin and pockets of fat from underneath the upper arms. This area is prone to carrying excess fat and skin, especially after significant weight loss or due to aging. Often called “bat wings,” these areas may not respond to diet and exercise, leaving you with the appearance of excess weight even when within a normal range. An arm lift helps achieve more trim and toned upper arms.
How Does an Arm Lift Work?
An arm lift addresses sagging skin and excess fat through surgical techniques. The procedure involves making precise incisions on the underside of the upper arms to remove loose skin, reshape the arms, and often, uses liposuction to contour the area further. General anesthesia ensures patient comfort, while the procedure results in enhanced proportions and smoother, firmer upper arms.
Types of Arm Lift Treatments
Traditional Arm Lift
This technique is ideal for removing significant amounts of sagging skin and fat. Incisions are typically made along the inner or underside of the upper arm to achieve the desired contour and remove excess tissue.
Extended Arm Lift
For patients with more extensive sagging that extends beyond the upper arms, an extended arm lift targets the arm as well as the sides of the chest to provide a comprehensive contouring result.
Liposuction-Assisted Arm Lift
This approach is ideal for patients with good skin elasticity but stubborn fat pockets. Liposuction is used to sculpt and slim the upper arms, leaving a smoother and more toned appearance.
Patient Testimonials
Before Your Arm Lift Procedure
Before your arm lift, you will meet with Dr. Colony to discuss your goals, medical history, and whether you are a good candidate for the procedure. To prepare, you will be instructed to avoid smoking and certain medications that can increase bleeding. A stable and healthy weight is essential, and Dr. Colony will provide personalized recommendations to ensure the best results.
During Your Arm Lift Procedure
During the procedure, general anesthesia is administered for your comfort. Incisions are made according to the type of arm lift performed either along the inner arm, underside, or extending to the chest. Excess skin and tissue are removed, and liposuction may be used to sculpt the arms. Once the reshaping is complete, incisions are closed with sutures, and the arms are dressed for recovery.
After Your Arm Lift Procedure
Recovery varies by individual, but most patients can return to work and regular activities within 2 weeks. Swelling and discomfort are common but can be managed with ice packs and prescribed medications. Wearing compression garments is essential for reducing swelling and supporting the new contours. You will notice smoother and more toned arms within one to two months. Maintaining results will depend on your implementation of a healthy diet and exercise routine.
What to Expect for Your Arm Lift Results
Your results will begin to emerge as swelling subsides, typically within a few weeks. Final results are visible within a couple months, revealing a noticeable improvement in the tone and contour of your arms. With a dedicated approach to health and fitness, your arm lift results can be long-lasting, helping you feel confident and achieve your aesthetic goals.
