The natural effects of time and gravity mean that our skin loses elasticity and its natural volume. Loss in volume and facial wrinkles and folds such as “smile lines” or “parentheses” between the corners of the mouth and nose may be making you look older than you feel. Other patients who wish to add volume to their naturally thin areas such as the lips or cheeks, or correct the contour and shape of areas like the nose bridge or chin, are excellent candidates for the plumping, and contouring effects of Juvéderm.
What Are Juvéderm Cosmetic Treatments?
Juvéderm® is a naturally occurring FDA-approved injectable that is effective to correct facial wrinkles and folds or add volume, leaving you with a smooth, young, and natural appearance. This injectable gel treatment is commonly used to soften severe facial wrinkles, improve overall skin smoothness, and enhance areas such as the lips, cheeks, and chin. When administered by a properly licensed practitioner, Juvéderm® delivers natural-looking results tailored to each patient’s facial structure and aesthetic goals.
How Does Juvéderm Work?
Juvéderm® is made from a hyaluronic gel that is naturally found in the skin and binds water, plumping lines and wrinkles. It replenishes hyaluronic acid in facial tissue, where age-related depletion contributes to lines, folds, and volume loss. Once injected, the gel binds with water molecules to gently plump the skin, providing immediate improvement in contour and hydration.
These facial injection procedures help achieve smoother skin texture while preserving natural facial movement. Different Juvéderm® formulations are designed for varying depths, from fine lines to volume restoration using deep injection techniques for structural support.
What Are the Types of Juvéderm®?
Juvéderm® products are formulated for specific facial concerns and treatment areas. Each product varies in thickness and longevity, enabling treatment customization based on skin quality, volume needs, and desired outcomes:
Juvéderm®
Patients seeking a younger, smoother, or more volumized appearance can benefit from Juvéderm® treatments with Dr. Colony in East Lansing. Juvéderm® treatment is performed in-office with a topical anesthetic.
Treatment only takes about 15 minutes, and patients may resume activities immediately. To know if you are a good candidate for Juvéderm®, you should schedule a complimentary consultation with Dr. Colony in East Lansing to discuss your desired aesthetic results.
Juvéderm® Voluma™
Juvéderm® Voluma is used to restore volume in all three areas of the cheek; apex, apple, and hollow. This helps correct age-related loss of facial volume and contour the cheeks for a more contoured facial profile.
Dr. Colony performs Voluma injections in the office. Treatment typically takes 15 minutes and can be combined with Botox® or other facial fillers to achieve a natural, effortless reduction in wrinkles and improved facial contour.
Patient Testimonials
Before Your Juvéderm Procedure
Before undergoing Juvéderm® treatment, you will meet with your provider to review your medical history, aesthetic goals, and candidacy. Patients with active bleeding disorders, multiple severe allergies, or previous allergic reactions to dermal fillers should disclose this information, as rare severe allergic reactions may occur.
You may be advised to avoid certain medications or supplements that could prolong bleeding or increase bruising. Your provider will also assess skin condition, facial anatomy, and overall suitability for treatment.
During Your Juvéderm Procedure
Juvéderm® treatments are performed in-office and typically take 15–30 minutes. A topical anesthetic is applied for comfort before carefully placed facial injections are administered into targeted areas. The filler is precisely injected to support natural contours and restore volume while minimizing discomfort. Patients typically experience mild pressure rather than pain, but those with low pain tolerance may discuss topical numbing cream with their provider.
After Your Juvéderm Procedure
Following treatment, mild swelling, temporary redness, or bruising at injection sites may occur but typically resolve within a few days. Patients are encouraged to minimize strenuous exercise for 24 hours and avoid excessive heat or pressure on treated areas.
Most individuals return to normal activities immediately. If unexpected symptoms, such as increased pain, skin discoloration, or signs of infection, occur, patients should contact their healthcare practitioner immediately.
What to Expect for Your Juvéderm Results
Juvéderm® results are visible immediately, with continued improvement as swelling subsides. Treated areas appear smoother, fuller, and more refreshed, with enhanced facial balance and natural expression. Depending on the product used and individual metabolism, results can last 6 months to 1 year or longer. Many patients choose maintenance treatments to preserve optimal results and address ongoing facial aging in a gradual, natural way.
