What is Labiaplasty?
Plastic surgery procedures can be used to improve or enhance nearly any part of the body, including our most private regions. Labiaplasty is a procedure that is used to improve the size or shape of a woman’s labia. Candidates who are seeking labiaplasty may be looking to improve the overall appearance of their vaginal area, or to address physical concerns from chafing or irritation.
How Does Labiaplasty Work?
Labiaplasty involves the careful removal or reshaping of excess tissue from the labia to achieve a more balanced, symmetrical appearance and improve physical comfort. Using advanced surgical techniques, Dr. Colony is able to sculpt the tissue with precision while preserving natural sensitivity and function. The procedure is highly individualized, with attention given to each patient’s unique anatomy and goals. Most surgeries are performed on an outpatient basis, allowing patients to return home the same day.

Prior to labiaplasty surgery, you will meet with Dr. Colony during a complimentary consultation. At this appointment, you and Dr. Colony will discuss your concerns in order to come up with an appropriate treatment plan. During Your Labiaplasty Procedure
Labiaplasty is typically performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia, ensuring you remain comfortable and relaxed throughout surgery. Once anesthesia is administered and the area is thoroughly numbed, Dr. Colony will carefully remove or reshape excess tissue according to the treatment plan. Dissolvable sutures are used to close the incisions, which means there is no need for suture removal during recovery. The entire procedure typically takes one to two hours, and patients are monitored briefly in a recovery area before returning home the same day with post-operative instructions.
After Your Labiaplasty Procedure
The recovery process does vary from woman to woman, but swelling, pain and bruising of the vaginal area are quite common and can last for a few weeks following surgery. Though most daily activities can be resumed almost immediately, certain strenuous exercises as well as sexual intercourse should be avoided for several weeks. To help facilitate a safe and speedy recovery, it is critical to follow all post-operative instructions closely.
What to Expect for Your Labiaplasty Results
As healing progresses, patients can expect a noticeable improvement in both the appearance and comfort of the labial area. Results are designed to look natural and proportional, often enhancing self-confidence and reducing discomfort during physical activity or intimacy. Final outcomes become more visible once swelling subsides, typically within a few months, though many patients begin to feel more comfortable within a few short weeks.
