What is Juvederm?

Dr. Lee Colony  In: Juvederm

Many people search long and hard to find products designed to reverse or, at the very least, slow the aging process. One such item is Juvederm. Michigan Plastic Surgery™, which serves the residents of East Lansing and surrounding regions, offers Juvederm to patients wanting to get beautiful, youthful skin.

Juvederm Overview

Juvederm is a gel-based filler made of hyaluronic acid. It is a natural substance found in the skin and bones. The filler can be used to fill in depressions, smooth out wrinkles and lines, and plump up the skin. There are several different Juvederm products. These products help users regain lost skin elasticity while eliminating problematic issues such as wrinkles and lines, particularly appearing around the mouth and nose.

Recipient Preparation

Juvederm treatment is minimally-invasive. Healthcare professionals recommend avoiding actions like ingesting aspirin and other over-the-counter pain relievers, which could slightly increase the risk of bleeding or bruising.

The Procedure

Dr. Colony at Michigan Plastic Surgery™ will pinpoint the injection areas before beginning the treatment. During treatment, he will inject Juvederm to the target areas based on the individual patient’s goals.

Each session lasts around 15 minutes. However, the specific duration will depend upon the facial region being addressed and the severity of the aesthetic issue.

Potential Side Effects

There will be some minor swelling and bruising after the treatment. These side effects should subside within a couple of days. Some patients may also experience some minor discomfort which can be taken care of with over-the-counter pain medications.

After Treatment

There is no lengthy recovery time associated with Juvederm. Patients may want to avoid exercise for the first day after their treatment but they should be free to resume all activities on the same day. Results are often seen immediately and usually last anywhere from six months to two years.
