Dr. Lee Colony In: Breast Augmentation
Is there a time of the year that’s better for breast augmentation or breast implants than others? The answer differs greatly from person to person. But spring can be the perfect time to have breast augmentation surgery done because it’s often the least busy time of the year.
But before we look at all the reasons why spring is the perfect time for cosmetic surgery, let’s look at what breast augmentation surgery is and what the recovery process entails.
Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation surgery is a very common surgical procedure often used to enhance the size, shape, and overall appearance of the breasts. You may be looking to fix asymmetrical breasts or improve your self-esteem. But how exactly is the procedure done? It depends on your goals.
Whether you want to enhance the size, shape, or symmetry of your breasts or want saline implants or silicone gel implants, your plastic surgeon can create a customized treatment plan and recommend which breast implants are best for you.
Breast implant surgery is performed under general anesthesia. Small incisions are made under the breast tissue, nipple, or armpit, and then the breast implants are inserted under the pectoral chest muscles, behind the breast tissue, or under the pectoral muscle covering the breasts.
Breast augmentation surgery can also include a breast lift, breast implant removal, or breast reduction. It all depends on your needs.
Recovery
Following the breast augmentation procedure, recovery time often varies from patient to patient. Most patients benefit from a few days of rest and relaxation. You will likely have some swelling, bruising, and redness on your breasts.
Dr. Colony typically recommends taking at least 5-7 days off work so you can properly recover. Patients with office jobs or non-strenuous roles can typically return to work after a week or so, but those with jobs that require physical labor or heavy lifting will have to wait at least 2 weeks (or more) before returning to work.
You will be given prescription pain medications which can be combined with ibuprofen.
Your incision sites will be taped with bandages and it’s recommended you wear a support bra to minimize swelling. You’ll want to keep your incisions clean and avoid exposing them to the sun as it could lead to darker scar tissue.
You also won’t want to lift anything 10 lbs or more or do any strenuous activity or exercise for at least the first two weeks to avoid bleeding and negatively impacting your surgical result.
You’ll also need to stay away from soaking or swimming for at least 4-6 weeks following the surgery.
Dr. Colony will provide a detailed aftercare plan to ensure you know what to do after. You will also schedule a 2-week post-op appointment with your plastic surgeon following the surgical procedure to ensure the healing process is going well and that there are no complications with your saline or silicone implants.
Why Spring Is The Perfect Time For Breast Augmentations
But why is spring the perfect time to get breast augmentation surgery? Why not another time of the year? Any time of the year can work but breast augmentation during the spring can prepare you for everything that comes with summer.
You Can Be Ready for Summer
With summer just around the corner, spring is the perfect time to get a breast augmentation. With shorts and tank tops, and bikinis being the outfits of summer, having surgery in the spring ensures you’re healed and recovered before you show off your new body at the beach. You’ll also be able to go swimming and participate in summer sports if you have the breast augmentation procedure in the spring.
You Can Be Comfortable During Your Recovery
While the higher temperatures during the summer are nice, it’s not optimal when you’re recovering and dealing with discomfort, bandages, and support bras.
During the spring, temperatures are much more comfortable and you can cover up with spring clothes until you’re recovered and ready in the summer.
It’s Right Before All The Holidays
Whether you have kids and need to take care of them while they are out of school or you have a summer vacation planned, by having a breast augmentation during the spring, you’ll be fully recovered by the time the summer activities come around. You won’t miss vacations or any quality time with your kids.
