Botox

Botox may no longer be referred to as a “quick-fix” treatment to smooth wrinkles. A new study out of Canada,
partly funded by Botox maker, Allergan, found that this injectable may also have long-term benefits for your skin.

There are three main factors that contribute to facial aging: repetitive facial expressions and loss of elastin and collagen. As you age, you lose elasticity in your skin and repeated facial expressions lead to the formation of wrinkles. Researchers have found Botox treatments may encourage the production of elastin and collagen, which tightens and firms your skin. This new information means more flexible skin and a more youthful appearance.

The study utilized a device that suctions the skin to see how quickly it bounced back. Forty-three women received Botox injections, and after a four-month period, they saw significant improvement in their skin’s elasticity.

Researchers also found that Botox actually changed the composition of the women’s skin, mirroring more youthful skin. The effect is implied to be similar to radiofrequency skin tightening treatments.
