As a woman’s body changes with age, significant weight loss, pregnancy, and breastfeeding, it is not uncommon for her breasts to lose their firmness and shape. A mastopexy, more commonly known as a breast lift, is a surgical procedure that is used to lift the sagging breast tissue and restore the shape and firmness of a woman’s breasts. Although breast lift surgery can be performed on its own, there are benefits to adding breast implants to the procedure.
What is Breast Lift and Augmentation?
A breast lift on its own is a wonderful option for women who are concerned about the shape and firmness of their breasts but are satisfied with their current size. However, many of the same factors that cause breasts to sag can also cause breasts to lose volume and size as well. In this case, a breast lift alone may not be satisfactory. Breast augmentation surgery utilizes breast implants to enhance the breasts to your desired breast volume and shape. Silicone implants and saline breast implants offer a variety of options for your unique needs.
Why Combine Breast Augmentation with Breast Lift?
In the East Lansing area, women combine a breast lift with breast augmentation in order to reshape and resize their breasts for a more proportioned and a more youthful appearance. Sometimes, a breast lift and breast implant procedure can be performed together, eliminating the need for multiple surgeries. Depending on the anatomy of a woman’s breasts and desired results, some patients may need to complete their breast procedures in stages, allowing for ample healing time after the breast lift before the breast augmentation procedure will be completed. Dr. Colony will discuss breast implant options and your breast surgery treatment plans in detail with patients to determine the best-individualized plan for their unique needs and goals.
Before Your Breast Lift and Augmentation Procedure
Dr. Colony will direct a detailed consultation where you will learn about the right breast procedure for your goals. You will select the implant type and possible incision patterns. Dr. Colony will provide detailed preparation instructions, such as avoiding certain medications, stoping smoking, doing blood work, and finding a post-surgical bra.
Patient Testimonials
During Your Breast Lift and Augmentation Procedure
Breast lift with augmentation is performed using general anesthesia. Dr. Colony will perform your procedure as discussed, lifting the breast tissue to a more upright position and removing excess skin. He will also insert the implants to increase breast shape and size, placing them either under the chest muscle or on top of it. Once complete, the incisions will be closed and you will be prepared for your recovery.
After Your Breast Lift and Augmentation Procedure
Recovery from breast lift with augmentation requires 1-2 weeks of downtime, depending on your job and activities. During this time, you will be asked to avoid intensive activities and focus on resting. You will wear a surgical bra to support your new implants and remove pressure from the incisions. Wear it as much as possible until otherwise cleared by Dr. Colony. You will follow up regularly to ensure that your recovery progresses as needed. Within 4-6 weeks, most swelling should subside and you can begin to appreciate your final results.
What to Expect From Your Breast Lift and Augmentation Results
Breast augmentation with lift is the most transformative cosmetic surgery for the breasts. You can expect your breasts to appear as they did before you experienced changes but with increased volume and projection. You will notice a significant improvement in the overall appearance of your breasts and the way they fit in your clothing.
