Dr. Lee Colony  In: Non Surgical, Skincare, Skin Resurfacing

At Michigan Plastic Surgery™, we offer a variety of non-invasive skin resurfacing and rejuvenating treatments including microdermabrasions and micropeels. Almost anyone can benefit from these treatments so if you have been hoping to refresh your skin, here is everything you need to know about these amazing, non-invasive, skin pampering options.

What is a Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a mechanical exfoliation treatment that rejuvenates the skin and improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, scarring, sunspots, dullness, uneven skin tone, rough skin texture, and discoloration. This is a completely non-invasive treatment that uses a device on top of the skin to buff away the outer, uneven layer of skin using microparticles and small, exfoliating crystals. As dead skin is buffed away, a small vacuum will suction the crystals back into the device along with the dead skin. Results are immediate so you will instantly see bright, refreshed skin. Although it is most commonly used on the face, you can also treat the neck, chest, and hands with microdermabrasion.

What is a Micropeel Treatment?

A micropeel is a lighter version of the chemical peel that gently peels away the top layer of the skin through the application of a chemical solution like glycolic acid. With regular treatment, micropeels improve the appearance of several skin concerns such as sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles, scarring, large pores, discoloration, texture, and even active acne. Micropeels can be customized for a light, medium, or deep treatment depending on your desired results and the amount of skin damage. Similar to microdermabrasion, micropeels are often used on the face but can also treat the neck, chest, and hands. With gentle exfoliation, micropeels strip away the outer layers of damaged skin to reveal a healthier, brighter,  rejuvenated skin complexion.

Which Treatment is Right for Me?

Microdermabrasion and micropeels are both great options if you are hoping to rejuvenate your skin and achieve a more youthful, radiant appearance. Ultimately, you get to decide your treatment plan, but Dr. Colony and our expert dermatologists can help you determine the best option. Your treatment will be based on your specific skin concerns and the amount of damage you hope to treat.
